Xiaoling Zhang

2025-08-18 Visits:

Professor Xiaoling Zhang is a leading scholar in sustainability science and urban climate resilience at the University of Hong Kong, currently serving as Director of Sustainability X-Lab, the University of Hong Kong. Professor Zhang has been consecutively named to the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list in 2022, 2023, and 2024 and currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Land Use Policy and Associate Editor of npj Urban Sustainability (a Nature Partner Journal). Supported by numerous national and regional research grants, including the NSFC Key Program and Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), she pursues impactful, interdisciplinary research of significant importance in recent years. Her key themes encompass computable urban complex systems and sustainable resource management; urban ecosystem modeling; environmental geography and land resource science (e.g., water-energy-carbon nexus); and integrated assessment modeling (IAM) for urban carbon neutrality under climate change. Building upon theoretical advancements in sustainability science, she develops modular integrated assessment models spanning environmental science, engineering, geoinformatics and remote sensing, economics, and management. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as satellite remote sensing and machine learning, she integrates spatiotemporal dynamic interaction models of human activities and ecological environments, geographic information system (GIS) models, techno-economic models, and lifecycle input-output models to establish a comprehensive, full-chain methodological framework for sustainability science. To date, Professor Zhang has published over 310 papers in international journals, accumulating 27,762 citations on Google Scholar with an H-index of 93, and is frequently invited to deliver keynote speeches at major international conferences.
